Statnett wanted to replace old and unsuitable disconnectors in their substations with disconnectors designed to their requirements to modernize the power grid. SERW was invited to create not only a new design for the disconnectors but also to provide motor drives with remote control. This allows the customer to remote control his devices without the need of on-site personnel.
Custom-made disconnector for Statnett, Norway
Plzeň, Czech Republic, August 2018 – A custom-made design for vertical disconnectors has been created for Statnett, an important system operator in the Norwegian energy system. The company operates about 11'000 km of high-voltage power lines and has about 150 stations all over Norway. To modernize the current substations, a new and very special design of disconnectors was required.
The project underwent multiple stages and the finished solution is almost ready to be delivered:
• One-pole and three-pole vertical disconnectors for outdoors
• Very special custom-made design
• 145 kV voltage level (three-pole)
• 300 kV (upgrading to 420 kV) voltage level (one-pole)
• Motor drives with remote control
Different to the old “knee-type” vertical disconnector with the current path broken into two parts, the new disconnector is designed with the current path as a single part, acting like a “knife”.
