High Voltage Disconnectors for Nuclear Power Plant Dukovany
Plzeň, Czech Republic, August 2020 – In July 2020, Czech installation company EGEM requested durable and reliable disconnectors with the voltage level of 420 kV, rated current of 4000 A and short-circuit current of 63 kA. R&S SERW will deliver the requested disconnectors to the end user ČEZ for the nuclear power plant substation in Dukovany, Czech Republic.
End user ČEZ, the biggest producer of energy in the Czech Republic, planned a reconstruction of the existing 420 kV substation. During the planning of the reconstruction, the company decided to replace the old disconnectors (type VOUI) with the new type of disconnectors.
The decision was based on the requirements to harmonize parameters with ČEPS. ČEPS is the main Transmission System Operator in the Czech Republic and uses R&S SERW disconnectors type 3SHJW-4240 (420 kV, 4000 A, 63 kA/1s, 160 kA). It is a new disconnector type with the high short-circuit capacity of 63 kA. Because of the increasing load of the grid, it is necessary to upgrade to a higher short-circuit capacity.

In the future, it is expected that ČEZ will change the disconnectors in all plants to the higher short-circuit capability. It is the same approach which ČEPS is following.
