High-Speed Railway Line Madrid-Galicia in Spain

Subbiano Arezzo, Italy, November 2020 – A total of 115 cast resin insulated transformers have been installed in various tunnels of the high-speed railway line Madrid-Galicia in Spain. Well-known transformer manufacturer Tesar provided an efficient solution to customer UTE Indra Alstom and customer Elecnor.

Adif Alta Velocitad, the Spanish state-owned administrator of railway infrastructures, has awarded new contracts for the further development of the high-speed line between Madrid and Galicia. The investment will mainly concern the protection and safety installations in tunnels and the completion of the electrification of the line.

The new high-speed line, a 434.86 km section, is built with a double electrified track and is designed to handle a maximum speed of 350 km/h. The new connection will significantly improve speed, reliability, comfort and travel times. The project supports social cohesion and stimulates the economy throughout all of Spain.

For the multiple tunnels on the line, a total of 19 tunnels, Tesar designed reliable and energy efficient cast resin transformers.
