Konya – Karaman Electrification Project

Sissach, Switzerland, December 2018 – The Turkish railway operator TCDD Taşımacılık together with Yapı Merkezi, a well-known Turkish constructor, commissioned Rauscher & Stoecklin to deliver 60 switching devices for the electrification of the over 200 km railway line between Konya and Karaman in Turkey. Thanks to the project, the travel time between Konya and Karaman has been reduced from 1 hour and 13 minutes to only 40 minutes.

The Konya-Karaman Regional is an over 100 km long regional passenger rail service operated by TCDD Taşımacılık. The train operates twice daily and serves as a connecting train for the high-speed YHT trains from Ankara and Istanbul. The overnight train Taurus Express also runs between Konya and Karaman, serving as the third daily train between the two cities.

Some specifications regarding the project:
• 102 km double line railway
• 200 km/h speed catenary system
• Electrification of 2 substations and 5 stations
• 60 switches with motor drives and operating rod assemblies
• In operation since September 2018

The positive cooperation between Yapı Merkezi and Rauscher & Stoecklin was one of the reasons the project was a full success and went as planned.

We express our satisfaction of using R&S switches. The switches are reliable, have a high quality and are trouble-free under operation.
