Instrument Transformers for Portuguese Utility Company EDP

Subbiano Arezzo, Italy, November 2019 – Tesar has been awarded a new contract three consecutive times from EDP Distribuição, the main Portuguese Distribution System Operator (DSO). Tesar has and will supply more than 10,000 instrument transformers in the time frame from 2017 to 2021 with its local partner ISO-SIGMA.

The Italian transformer manufacturer Tesar has been fully approved and qualified at EDP Distribuição for instrument transformers since 2010 and has already supplied thousands of metering transformer units according to the customer specifications divided among 44 possible configurations.

Some specifications about the project:
• Over 10,000 instrument transformers
• Current and voltage transformers
• Indoor installation
• Last delivery in 2021

In 2013 after the latest issuing of the new EDP Distribuição specifications, Tesar was requested to re-validate its approval. The pre-qualification started in 2016 and was achieved in 2018. The final qualification was successfully passed by Tesar in January 2019.

According to the specifications of EDP Distribuição, which are supported by the International Electrotechnical Commission (e.g IEC61869), the instrument transformers needed to perform some special tests, including a short-circuit capability withstand test on current transformers for 3 seconds. The required tests were successfully performed at the CESI laboratory in Milan, Italy.

We would like to take the opportunity to express our satisfaction with the manufacturer of measurement transformers, highlighting the proactive approach in the customer/supplier relationship.

– José Gonçalves from the Technology and Innovation Department at EDP Distribuição
