Rauscher & Stoecklin researches the implementation of digitalization in the distribution transformer business

Sissach, Switzerland, May 2019 – A transformer that shares its operating data with the IoT (Internet of Things) gives new opportunities to control, alert and design the power grid. In the master thesis of Rauscher & Stoecklin’s sales manager Daniel Beutler, this is exactly what is being investigated.

The aim is to record the measured values determined by sensors, such as temperature, voltage and current in a modular and scalable system and to make them available to customers in an appealing open portal. Other parameters that can be optionally offered to the customer are the location (by GPS), pressure, oil level, vibration, water content in oil, ambient temperature and voltage quality.

Of course, the customer is in the center of the research. A large and elaborate survey was conducted among 100 customers and experts to determine what the needs and requirements in the industry are. The results of the research were not publicly published but can be requested from Rauscher & Stoecklin.
