Unity Tower “Szkieletor” in Krakow comes to life
Niepołomice, Poland, March 2020 – The Unity Tower, known to the public as “Szkieletor”, is one of the monuments of the late communist system in Krakow. The construction of the building started in 1975 but then stopped permanently in 1979, leaving a giant unfinished frame made of concrete and steel.
The nickname Szkieletor was given to the skeleton-like building ruin by the character Skeletor from the comic series Masters of the Universe, popular in the 1980s.
Construction company STRABAG will now finally bring the unfinished tower in the middle of Krakow’s city centre to life. The finished building will contain apartments, a hotel and offices, with a gallery or café at the top. With a height of 102.5 m, the new Unity Tower will also be the highest tower in the city. Tesar Polska supported the project by delivering custom-made transformers with extremely reduced height according to the customers’ needs.
Some specifications of the project:
- A total of 8 cast resin transformers delivered
- Power ratings of 1600 kVA, 1000 kVA, 800 kVA
- Voltages of 15,75/0,42 kV
- Custom-made design with extremely reduced height
- Entire project is scheduled for completion by mid 2021
