Chiasso Substation

Subbiano Arezzo, Italy, June 2018 – With a view to increasing the traffic volume of the Swiss-Italian Gotthard corridor, a new substation for electrical power (SSE) has been built in Chiasso (CO) on the border between Italy and Switzerland, operating since 27 May 2018. The purpose of this SSE is the AC/DC conversion for the powering of trains circulating in the Swiss railway networks.

The prestigious project was carried out in a collaboration between the Swiss Federal Railways CFF SBB FFS and the Italian company Italferr, a member of the RFI (Rete Ferroviaria Italiana) group, that, in addition to the Work Direction, has carried out the design of the project.

The main electrical contractor, the Mont-ele Srl company located in Giussano (MB), assigned Tesar to design, manufacture and test two new cast resin transformers, so far never used in the Italian railway networks (RFI):
• Rated power 5760 kVA
• Ratio 15 / 2,72 – 2,72 kV
• Overloads 200% for 2 hours plus 233% for 5 minutes.

The transformers were subjected with positive results in the Tesar Laboratories to the routine, impulse, heating, noise and transferred overvoltage tests.

Our professional testing laboratories combined with our long-term know-how allow us to design and deliver the perfect solution for our customers.
