Two parallel connected transformers and one reserve transformer for Bruker Switzerland AG

Sissach, Switzerland, July 2020 – For the company Bruker Switzerland AG, a leading manufacturer of scientific instruments worldwide, R&S Rauscher & Stoecklin installed three new transformers and recycled and handled the professional disposal of the old transformers.

The three transformers are connected in such a way that two are connected in parallel and one transformer serves as a reserve. The circuit is changed annually in alternation so that all transformers are equally loaded over their entire service life. The reserve transformer serves for redundancy and safety reasons, if one of the other two transformers fails or during a revision or maintenance.

The dismantling of the two existing oil transformers from the year 1986 was carried out on February 10, 2020. The three new oil transformers were installed on February 20. The transformers were installed and removed through a narrow opening in the ceiling from the edge of the street to the basement. This required the highest precision for crane unloading.

Some specifications of the project:

  • 3x DVO 1000 kVA CU SA / 16.8 kV
  • Both disassembly and assembly were carried out by R&S’ expert personnel
  • Recycling and professional disposal of old transformers
  • Wheel locks to serve as roll-away protection of the transformers
  • Corner reinforcements to serve for the professional lashing down of the transformers in earthquake-endangered areas
