Railway switches for CFL in Luxembourg

Sissach, Switzerland, May 2021 – R&S Rauscher & Stoecklin will deliver 25 kV overhead-line switchgear for Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois (CFL), the national railway company of Luxembourg.

Luxembourg’s railways form the backbone of the country’s public transportation network and provide cross-border services into Belgium, Germany and France with rapidly growing traffic. For that reason, the depot in Luxemburg requires an extension to be able to cope with the increasing rolling stock maintenance.

For the first time, R&S Rauscher & Stoecklin delivered 25 kV overhead-line switchgear to CFL for the installation of this depot, in 2016. Based on this successful delivery and offering customized solutions for the special requirements of the extension, CFL signed a new contract with R&S. Excellent pre-sales technical support, flexibility to adapt the existing design for the needs of this installation and a detailed offer coupled with a short delivery time as well as proven after-sales support were some of the winning points for Rauscher & Stoecklin.

Scope and key features of the supply:

  • 8 overhead-line switchgears including load-break switches with and without forced earthing as well as earthing switches
  • Nominal voltage of 25 kV AC
  • Nominal current of 2000 A
  • Uniquely designed motor-drives
  • Rod linkages for operation
  • Coupling set for bi-polar installation
  • Delivery in July 2021
