Railway switches for Thessaloniki Depot Upgrade

Sissach, Switzerland, October 2020 – The Pan-European Corridor X, connecting Central Europe via Thessaloniki to Athens and Piraeus, will soon see significant growth in traffic. For that reason, the Thessaloniki Depot requires an upgrade to be able to cope with the increasing rolling stock maintenance. R&S together with its representative, Mr. Lambros Papadias in Greece was able to secure a supply contract for overhead-line switchgear to the leader of this project, Alstom Transport SA.

R&S was able to offer a solution as well as alternatives according to the railway authority specifications. A detailed offer, fast response rate and satisfied technical support for the offered equipment were some of the winning points for R&S Rauscher & Stoecklin.

The design of the products is adapted to the requirements of the Hellenic Railways Organization, short OSE, which is the eventual end-user. It is the first project that R&S Rauscher & Stoecklin was awarded in Greece.

Some specifications of the project:

  • 16 sets of overhead-line switchgear
  • Disconnectors, disconnectors with earthing switches and load-break switches
  • Nominal voltage of 25 kV AC
  • Nominal current of 2000 A
  • Uniquely designed motor-drives
  • Rod linkages for operation
  • Delivery in December 2020

As an extension of this order, Alstom also awarded a second supply contract to R&S Rauscher & Stoecklin for a 6 km line section between Isthmos Korinthos and Loutraki.
