R&S Group inaugurates new power transformer plant in Poland
5 November 2026 – R&S Group Holding AG (SIX: RSGN), a leading provider of distribution transformer solutions, power transformers and other electrical components, celebrated the official opening of its new power transformer plant under the ZREW brand in Łódź, Poland, on
3 November 2026. Around 300 participants attended the event, including customers, business partners, local government representatives and industry experts.
The new 20,000 sqm facility, situated on a five-hectare site within the Łódź Special Economic Zone, marks a significant milestone in the Group’s strategic expansion. Designed to double ZREW’s production output by 2028, the plant strengthens R&S Group’s ability to meet growing demand for power transformers that support electricity network modernisation, renewable energy integration, and industrial development across Europe.
Developed in collaboration with Panattoni BTS, the facility has been purpose-built for the manufacture, assembly and testing of large power transformers. Key highlights include:
- Expanded production capacity: The plant is designed to double ZREW’s manufacturing capacity, supporting the Group’s growth ambitions and its customers’ investment in critical energy infrastructure.
- Power transformer capabilities: The facility will manufacture transformers rated up to 160 MVA and 220 kV for electricity networks, renewable and conventional generation, and industrial and railway applications.
- Advanced manufacturing and testing: Specialist infrastructure includes high-voltage test chambers with electromagnetic protection systems, a dedicated drying room for transformer components, and handling systems capable of moving transformers weighing more than 200 tonnes.
- Established engineering expertise: Building on ZREW’s 70-year presence in Łódź, the plant combines an experienced workforce with additional recruitment. Around 200 people are ultimately expected to work at the facility.
- Sustainability focus: The building has been designed to reduce energy consumption and is targeting BREEAM certification at the ‘Excellent’ level.
Heinz Kundert, Chairman of the Board of Directors of R&S Group, highlighted the strategic importance of the investment: “We decided to make this investment in Łódź to expand our portfolio and meet the growing market demand. New wind farms and industrial plants require top-class power transformers. We have chosen the best location for this. Poland lies at the heart of Europe, is investing dynamically in the energy transition, and we have found a highly educated and committed workforce here.”
Grzegorz Sołtysiak, Managing Director of ZREW Transformatory S.A., highlighted the contribution of the company’s workforce and its longstanding connection with Łódź: “Łódź is a special place for us, where ZREW has been growing for 70 years. We receive tremendous scientific and technical support here from the Łódź University of Technology, which trains successive generations of engineers whose expertise is essential to our industry.”
He added: “The new plant will enable us to supply the market with even more transformers of the highest power ratings and uncompromising quality.”
The opening represents a further step in R&S Group’s strategy for profitable growth, expanding its power transformer manufacturing capacity and strengthening its ability to support customers as Europe’s electricity infrastructure develops.
