Frequently asked questions

The R&S Group is an international group of companies for electrical infrastructure products, headquartered in Sissach, Switzerland. Founded in 2012, the group brings several specialised transformer manufacturers together under one roof, with production sites and branches in Europe, South America and the Middle East. Transformers have been produced within the group since 1919.

The R&S Group comprises four brands: Rauscher & Stoecklin (oil-cooled distribution transformers, with plants in Sissach, Switzerland, and since 2025 in Krzeczów near Bochnia, Poland), Tesar (cast resin transformers as well as current and voltage transformers, with the regional units Tesar Italia, Tesar UAE and Tesar Polska), Kyte Powertech (oil distribution transformers, pad-mounted distribution transformers, single-phase transformers, three-phase pole-mounted and ground-mounted transformers) and ZREW (power transformers, Poland).

The R&S Group manufactures at several sites: Rauscher & Stoecklin in Sissach, Switzerland (since 1919) and, since April 2025, also in Krzeczów near Bochnia (Poland); ZREW in Łódź, Poland (since 1957); Tesar in Chiaveretto/Castelnuovo, Italy (since 1979), in Niepołomice near Kraków, Poland (since 2013) and with a manufacturing and service facility in Al Ain (Tesar UAE); and Kyte Powertech in Cavan, Ireland (since 1977).

With its four brands, the R&S Group covers the full range of transformer technologies – from oil-immersed and cast resin transformers to power transformers. This allows it to offer customers the right technology for each application across all brands, instead of being tied to a single design.

The R&S Group offers four main product categories: power transformers, cast resin/dry-type transformers, distribution transformers, and current and voltage transformers. Switchgear is also part of the portfolio of individual brands.

The R&S Group is active in three main areas: Utilities (power generation, transmission and distribution), Renewables (wind, biothermal, solar, hydropower) and Industry (marine & ports, railway, data centres, mining, oil & gas, battery storage, e-mobility, district heating, chemicals & plastics, pulp & paper, general infrastructure).

Yes. Depending on the site, the R&S Group companies are certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and in some cases ISO 45001; the products meet international standards such as IEC 60076, PN-EN and GOST as well as the EU Ecodesign Regulation (EU) No 548/2014.

Yes. The R&S Group is internationally oriented and supplies customers worldwide through its brands and sites in Europe and the Middle East – and, through Kyte Powertech, the UK market in particular.

Oil-immersed transformers use insulating oil for cooling and insulation and are usually more cost-effective and compact; cast resin transformers do without liquid coolants and are used where environmental or fire protection requirements apply, for example in buildings or tunnels. Within the R&S Group, Rauscher & Stoecklin primarily covers oil-immersed transformers and Tesar primarily cast resin transformers.

Distribution transformers deliver energy at medium voltage directly to end consumers (typically up to around 10 MVA), whereas power transformers are designed for higher voltages and ratings in transmission grids, power plants and large industrial facilities (at ZREW up to 160 MVA / 220 kV).

Lead times are highly competitive and are agreed individually with each customer – this applies to all brands and products of the group.

Yes. Transformers from Rauscher & Stoecklin and Tesar meet the requirements of the EU Ecodesign Regulation (EU) No 548/2014 (Tier 1 and 2) and the follow-up Regulation (EU) 2019/1783; with the EcoPlus2030 series, Tesar also offers a range with CO₂ emissions reduced beyond the statutory minimum requirements.

In addition to manufacturing new transformers, the R&S Group offers product-related services including oil analyses, diagnostics, overhauls, repairs, retrofilling and disposal – Rauscher & Stoecklin and ZREW in particular have extensive service and diagnostic offerings.
